Nov. 4, Kathmandu (Reuters) – A powerful earthquake that slammed Nepal’s western Jajarkot district on Saturday caused at least 128 deaths and several injuries, according to officials. The earthquake also caused buildings as far away as New Delhi in neighboring India to tremble.

The magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck on Friday at 11:47 p.m. (1802 GMT), according to Nepal’s National Seismological Centre. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at 5.6, while the German Research Center for Geosciences downgraded it from 6.2 to 5.7.

This earthquake is the deadliest since two in the Himalayan nation in 2015, which claimed around 9,000 lives. At a cost of $6 billion to the economy, entire cities, ancient temples, and other historic landmarks were reduced to rubble, and over a million homes were destroyed.https://toptrendybuzz.com/bigg-boss-november-3-full-episode-shocked/

As they had not been able to make contact with the steep region close to the epicenter, some 500 km (300 miles) west of the capital Kathmandu, where tremors were also felt, officials feared the death toll in Friday’s earthquake could increase. There are 190,000 people living in the area, which is made up of isolated hillside communities.

“It’s possible that there will be hundreds of injuries and more fatalities,” Jajarkot district officer Harish Chandra Sharma told Reuters over the phone.

According to police spokesman Kuber Kadayat, there were 36 fatalities in the nearby Rukum West district and 92 in the Jajarkot district in Karnali province. The community of Ramidanda served as the epicenter.

An official from the prime minister’s office stated that at least 85 people were hurt in Rukum West and 55 in Jajarkot. Meanwhile, Sharma stated that at least 50 people were hospitalized in Jajarkot alone.

Numerous homes have fallen, and numerous others have cracks in them. As the aftershocks came, thousands of inhabitants were too terrified to enter the shattered houses and spent the entire night in the chilly, open spaces,” Sharma recalled. “I have myself not been able to go in.”

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal

In order to supervise search, rescue, and relief efforts, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and a 16-person army medical team left early on Saturday, according to his office.

In a message on the social networking site X, Dahal expressed his profound grief over the lives lost and the property destroyed in the earthquake and gave the order for security services to begin rescue and relief efforts right away.

“Houses have fallen through. Individuals bolted from their houses. I’m outside among the terrified locals. We’re looking for specifics about the damage,” police spokesperson Santosh Rokka stated over the phone.
